A little about the blogger: Lucy Yellen is currently an intern at Pilot Light. Her interest in public health and nutrition started when she started running at age 14. She realized how large an impact food and exercise have on the quality of life and wants to make sure every person has those same opportunities. She is planning on going to college to study public health and to change or implement government policies on nutrition. Lucy is going into her senior year at Deerfield High School, where she is captain of Cross Country and is very active in the theatre and fine arts departments.
On Wednesday, July 8, Pilot Light had the incredible opportunity to be a part of the annual event, Taste of Chicago. Along with 2 poster boards, 300 recipe cards, 300 Feed Your Mind Gala cards, 250 pencils, Taco al Pastor ingredients, and 3 Chicago Chefs, the Pilot Light team was ready to meet the food loving crowd of Chicago.
Inside the tent, Chefs Matthias Merges, Justin Large and Jason Hammel made Tacos Al Pastor in the kitchen with Mariano’s (there may or may not have been some Jammin’ in the kitchen) while interns handed out recipes and promoted Pilot Light’s mission and the upcoming benefit outside the tent. It was very exciting to hear so much enthusiasm about Pilot Light from new faces! If you are reading this and found out about Pilot Light at Taste of Chicago, thank you, we are glad to have you!
We ended the event with some yummy tacos, 10 recipe cards, 20 Gala cards, 0 pencils, a new group of Chicago Pilot Light enthusiasts, and 3 Chicago chefs (none were lost!) It was a successful and fun day for Pilot Light and now we are back to focusing on the Feed Your Mind Gala on October 9th!! Mark your calendars and it will be here sooner than you think! Thanks for reading and a huge thanks to Mariano’s grocery for allowing us to jam in your kitchen!
