The Food Education Fellowship

Pilot Light seeks highly-motivated PreK–12th grade teachers across the country with an interest in implementing Pilot Light food education lessons consistently with their students. Fellows will be supported with Pilot Light resources while helping to refine and evaluate food education in classrooms (virtually and/or in-person!).

  • Will be teaching in the United States in the 2021-22 school year
  • At least 2 years of teaching experience + experience writing lesson plans
  • Interest in using food education as a tool to teach in your classroom
  • Interest in monthly, virtual professional development related to food education
  • Interest in engaging in school community and with families
  • Commitment to meeting requirements outlined for Fellows
  • Administrator approval 


  • Attendance at all professional development meetings (hosted virtually)
  • Delivering Pilot Light food education lessons weekly in classrooms
  • Creating Pilot Light food education lessons and resources throughout the year
  • Commitment to evaluating the effects of food education in your classroom
  • Commitment to food education advocacy and community and family engagement
  • Commitment to connecting school food to classroom lessons

  • Monthly Virtual Professional Development (evening from 5-7pm CST)

  • $2000 stipend for completion of Fellowship
  • Reimbursement for food education materials during Fellowship
