The Food Education Fellowship

Pilot Light seeks highly-motivated PreK–12th grade teachers across the country with an interest in implementing Pilot Light food education lessons consistently with their students. Fellows will be supported with Pilot Light resources while helping to refine and evaluate food education in classrooms (virtually and/or in-person!).

FOOD EDUCATION FELLOWSHIP 2022-23 APPLICATION:

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

  • Will be teaching in the United States in the 2022-23 school year
  • At least 2 years of teaching experience
  • Interest in using food education as a tool to teach in your classroom
  • Interest in monthly, virtual professional development related to food education
  • Interest in engaging in school community and with families
  • Commitment to meeting requirements outlined for Fellows
  • Administrator approval 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Attendance at all professional development meetings (hosted virtually – see dates below)
  • Delivering Pilot Light food education lessons weekly in classrooms
  • Commitment to evaluating the effects of food education in your classroom
  • Commitment to student-led food education advocacy & community and family engagement
  • Commitment to connecting school food to classroom lessons

ADDITIONAL APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Sample Lesson (see specific requirements in application)
  • Two professional references
  • Updated resume
  • Completion of Pilot Light Food Education Fellowship Application 
  • Completion of Administrator Recommendation Form

LOCATION:

United States (Your school should be located within the U.S.A)

DURATION:

August 2022 – June 2023

Key Dates – all professional development will be held virtually

  • Summer Institute: August 8th and 9th 2022 – (all day, exact times to be announced)
  • Monthly Virtual Professional Development (evening from 5-7pm CST)

    • May 10th
    • June 14th

PERKS:

  • $2000 stipend for completion of Fellowship 
  • $250 reimbursement for food education materials during Fellowship
  • Monthly virtual professional development
