5th Grade Social Studies and ELA Teacher, Feeding Futures Fellow
Lincoln Middle School
Mrs. Foster has been teaching for 21 years and food and education has been something that she has been incorporating since she began teaching.
Favorite Food Education Standard: FES #1: Food Connects Us to Each Other and FES #3: Food and the environment are interconnected.
I would say 1 and 3 resonates the most with myself. Breaking bread with anyone brings us closer together.
A Favorite Food Memory or Recipe:
My favorite food memory is letting my 1st graders try prunes.
What I’m Most Excited About as a Feeding Futures Fellow:
I am already doing this in my classroom and have been for many years. It is another way to enlighten my student’s education in a fun way.
My Feeding Futures Food Advocacy Project:
Healthy Foods – Students did slideshow presentations about healthy eating.
“Students are doing a slideshow presentation about eating healthy foods…[they] have talked about what are non-healthy foods [and] have explained what happens when you don’t eat healthy foods and what can happen to you…I am an ELA teacher and have fine-tuned the projects regarding grammar.”
