Bonnie Hoffman – 2019-2020 Fellow

Bonnie Hoffman – 5th and 6th Grade Humanities at Disney II Elementary School

Bonnie Hoffman is originally from a small suburb outside Philadelphia, tracing her family history back to 1654.  She attended Washington College in Chestertown, MD. After receiving her Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology with a minor in English, she followed the love of her life to Chicago.  She started teaching after volunteering at her children’s school where she taught students poetry in grades K to 8th. After receiving her Masters of Education from National-Louis University, she began her career in the most rewarding job she has ever had – teaching!

This year is her 20th year teaching.  She has taught at three Chicago Public schools – Ebinger for two years, Reinberg for 15 years, and is starting her 3rd year at Disney II.  She has taught a multitude of grades from 2nd to 8th. During this time, she received her National Board certification, and endorsements in ELA, SS, and Math.  Currently, she is working towards a certification in ESL. Always searching for more ways to challenge her students to be lifelong learners, Bonnie loves digging into new challenges.  Life is an adventure and one should never be afraid to face the challenges ahead. This same belief influences her teaching, where she challenges her students to look beyond themselves, to not be afraid of asking questions, and most importantly – to never let someone tell them something is not possible!
