Caitlin Arens is a manager and an instructor at The Kids’ Table, a kids’ cooking school in Wicker Park serving families and kids from ages 18 months through teenagers.

She believes children hold the key to the evolution of food systems, and she loves the impact food has when integrated in curriculum as a medium to teach subjects from math (spacing plants in a garden) to history (discussing migration and the blending of cultures and cuisines). Throughout her career while working in hotels, restaurants (including Blue Hill at Stone Barns), and farms in Chicago, New York, and Europe, she has been an advocate for making healthy and local food accessible to communities. Committed to continuing her education in food education after moving back to Chicago, she joined Pilot Light’s Young Professional board becoming a chef-volunteer in 2017, and currently serving as as Co-President of the Young Professional Board. She earned a degree from Cornell University’s School of Hotel Administration and a degree in Culinary Arts from The Culinary Institute of America as a student in the collaborative degree program offered between the two schools.

Favorite food/meal: pesto on everything! I can’t get enough of it no matter the type.
