Pilot Light Intern

As an intern, Ava assists with outreach, events, and research, while also writing informative pieces about Pilot Light and its programs. She is passionate about helping others and improving the world around her. Pilot Light has greatly inspired her to continue learning about how nutrition and food sources impact communities as she furthers her education and begins her career.

Favorite Food Education Standard: FES #1- Food connects us to each other. My family and friends are all very passionate about food and I’ve grown up surrounded by it. I love this standard because food is something my loved ones and I have always bonded over, whether through cooking, eating, or passing recipes down through generations. Food is a common language and something that we can all enjoy and it truly does connect us all.

Ava’s favorite food memory or recipe: Easily my mom’s chocolate chip cookies. She perfected her recipe a few years before I was born and I have been baking them with her since I was five years old. This recipe was the first I ever memorized and I don’t think I’ll ever forget it. Every time we get together with friends and family someone inevitably requests that she brings her cookies (and she always does!). I treasure the time spent baking with my mom and her famous chocolate chip cookies will always hold a special place in my heart.
