2024-25 Fellow: Amy Jacobs has been teaching for 18 years. They first became interested in the Pilot Light Fellowship when she saw an flyer in the teacher lounge and is looking forward to bringing food into the curriculum to motivate student learning and for students to get excited about finding ways that food connect us all during their time as a Fellow. Amy has taught multiple grades over the years and is currently teaching 5th grade Math and Science. She is also the K-5 Math Coordinator for her school and is on the Instructional Leadership Team.
Favorite Food Education Standard:
#1 – Food connects us to each other resonates the most with me because food tells you so much about every culture and community. Its like a snapshot to their history and the ingredients in the region. Food is a universal language.
A Favorite Food Memory or Recipe:
One of my favorite food experiences was a catered some Chicago Bears tailgates for some friends. I would cook food that the opposing team’s city was famous for like muffulettas from New Orleans or coneys from Detroit. It was fun to be apart of the experience.
What I’m Most Excited About as a New Fellow:
I am most excited about learning ways to bring food into the curriculum to help motivate student learning. I am also excited about taking what I learn back to others in my building.
