Favorite Food Education Standard: FES #3 – Food and the environment are interconnected.
“Food and the environment are interconnected” is the standard that resonates with me the most. As a designer, I’m constantly evaluating how the built environment can be inclusive of all abilities and positively affect the people within it while reducing negative environmental and social impacts. Food is a part of this greater ecosystem and interconnection of all living things. The decisions we make have a chain effect to us as individuals, to our families, to our communities and to our planet.
A favorite food memory:
My mom instilled a love of food in me from an early age, whether it was helping her cook family dinners or baking for our annual holiday cookie exchange. I cherished those opportunities to spend time with and learn about food from her. The act of cooking gave me responsibility and the art of sharing food brought our family together. Those same sentiments I carry on with my own family today.
Why I Support Pilot Light:
I have experienced first-hand the impact that informed nutrition has to one’s overall physical, mental and psychological well-being. Increasing food awareness in the younger generations promotes a greater overall well-being and healthier decision making now and into the future.
