2025-26 Fellow: Bionca B.

2nd Grade Teacher in Washington, DC

Mundo Verde PCS – Calle Ocho Campus

2025-26 Fellow: Mrs. Bionca B. has been teaching for about 5 years now and was recommended to join the Pilot Light Fellowship while teaching Cooking & Gardening in DC! She is now teaching second grade this year and they are looking to coming up with an awesome advocacy project centering around the unhoused population in their community during her time as a Fellow. She graduated from Old Dominion University with a Bachelor’s of Science and majored in Elementary Education. Since then she’s held all types of positions from DC to the 757! Bionca’s experience across various grade levels, communities, and even career fields will assist her in major outside of the box ideas during this journey.

Favorite Food Education Standard: FES #7: We can advocate for food choices and changes that impact ourselves, our communities, and our world.

This resonates with me because I’ve lived in so many different places with different qualities of living. I have learned how food changes depending on your upbringing, community, and even politics. I want to share this knowledge with my students so they can become empathetic activists.

A Favorite Food Memory or Recipe:

Learning to make sustainable vegan foods with my students and harvesting tomatoes out of our garden!

What I’m Most Excited About as a New Fellow:

I’m excited to integrate these standards with my school’s mission and see how our advocacy project actually affects our community.
