Lisa Schmid – 4th Grade at L.H. Tanglen Elementary School – Minnetonka, MN
I am in my 12th year of teaching, a majority of that time spent with 5th graders. However, I have also taught 6th, 3rd, and this year, 4th. I coach Girls on the Run at our school twice each year. We have a tower garden in our classroom, so each year we grow lettuce, kale, cilantro, basil, and more. Then we cook with what we grow. I love seeing students who may struggle academically excel and be leaders in the area of cooking. There is such excitement when we are cooking and eating what food we grew.
I also enjoy teaching rubber stamping classes, gardening, biking, kayaking, playing pickleball, traveling with my husband, cookie decorating, and having coffee with friends. Fun fact: I am fluent in Japanese and hope to live part time in Hawaii, again, to use my language skills. Also, I am totally in love with hot air balloons and frequently crew for friends at the Hot Air Balloon Festival in Albuquerque. Finally, the best color in the whole world is lime green, and the cutest car ever is my red VW bug!
