Lisa Ernst – 6th Grade Humanities at Science, Language Arts, and Social Studies at Alice Fong Yu K-8 – Petaluma, CA
Lisa is a sixth grade teacher for San Francisco Unified School District. This will be her twenty-fourth year teaching at Alice Fong Yu K-8, which is the First Chinese Immersion Public School in the nation. At Alice Fong Yu, she teaches in a multi-subject classroom with the emphasis on the integration of content through STEAM, along with serving as the Middle School Student Council Advisor. She has a vast history of participating in numerous fellowships from Stanford, the Department of Energy, NASA, Yale National Initiative, to the Strategic Educational Research Participation. Through these programs, Lisa has developed and presented curriculum locally, nationally, and globally. Each of these programs enabled Lisa to secure over $30,000 in funding for her classroom.
Creating a culture of change agents, Pilot Light and the Food Education Fellowship can create a growth mindset centered around social-emotional learning, language, and food. Lisa is excited to integrate food within the content and to utilize the school garden at Alice Fong Yu. This specific quote from Guy Fieri truly radiates with our school community and food: “Cooking is all about people. Food is maybe the only universal thing that really has the power to bring everyone together. No matter the culture, everywhere around the world, people get together to eat.”
