Seth Zurer is the co-founder of Baconfest Chicago and the father of a third-grader at Decatur Classical, a Chicago Public School in the West Ridge neighborhood. He is an avid home cook and maker of pickles and preserves, preferably with produce from his Albany Park backyard vegetable garden.
Why are you volunteering with Pilot Light?
I support the mission of giving kids a hands-on way to connect with food education and believe that shared meals are a fundamental way to improve family life, community connections, and good health. I also love the idea of using food experiences to support lessons in all academic subjects. As a parent of a CPS student, I’m eager to help make food education a part of every kids’ school life.
What is your favorite food or meal?
Homemade bread with salted butter and sour cherry jam from my backyard cherry tree.
