About Pilot Light

Pilot Light is a Chicago-based nonprofit founded in 2010 by chefs and teachers that is dedicated to supporting and centering students as they learn and advocate for informed choices by bridging the lessons they learn in their classrooms to the foods on their lunch trays, at home, and in their communities. We accomplish our mission by providing Pre-K-12th grade teachers with professional development, standards-aligned curriculum and resources designed to build their capacity to integrate food education into existing academic curricula, supporting holistic food education. Since its founding, Pilot Light has directly reached over 12,000 students in schools located predominately on the south and west sides of Chicago and offers free e-learning, classroom, and family curricula on its digital Food Education Center.

Why We Need You

As Pilot Light expands, we are looking for an individual who has a background in food and agriculture to support the writing and development of an agriculture education curriculum. This individual will also work closely with partners in food, agriculture, and related fields to develop video content designed to provide teachers with an engaging teaching tool to complement lessons, while also providing career inspiration to students.

This person will report to Pilot Light’s Vice President of Programs. This position requires a high level of attention to detail, creative thinking, and communications and writing skills.

Primary Job Responsibilities:

Work with Pilot Light’s Vice President of Programs to develop new agriculture-based lessons for Pre-K-12th grade and associated video content based on lesson content and competencies;
Work with Pilot Light’s existing partners in agriculture and food and identify new partners to execute video concepts;
Write video scripts;
Supervise video production and manage schedule and logistics, working closely with videographer and location partners;
Create an evaluation rubric for teachers who utilize lessons and videos;
Compile and analyze evaluation data;
Upload all content to Pilot Light’s Food Education Center;
Create agriculture education curriculum language and marketing materials to support outreach to schools, districts and partners; and,
Assist in minor operations tasks.

Demonstrated background and knowledge in food and agriculture
Passion for Pilot Light’s mission
Demonstrated project management abilities
Strong written and verbal communication skills
High level of organization and attention to detail
Experience in education or working in schools is a plus
Experience with Google Suite, WordPress, and graphic design is a plus

Compensation: Hourly, $30-$35/hour commensurate with experience. This position is grant-funded and may conclude on June 30, 2022.

Hours: Part-time, approximately 25 hours per week. Must be available to meet with our team and partners during 9 am-5 pm CT working hours.

Location: Chicago, IL. Pilot Light is currently working remotely however it is required that the successful candidate be located in the Chicagoland area.
